This fall we will have an adult Sunday school class based on the Narrative Lectionary. Each week, we will have a small group discussion on the day’s lectionary readings. We will dig deeper into each one & discuss their many meanings. We hope you can join us!
THIS FALL THE ADULT CHURCH HISTORY SUNDAY SCHOOL class will be using a highly acclaimed course from the Great Courses, Professor David Brakke’s The Apocryphal Jesus. The 27 canonical texts of the New Testament are only a tiny fraction of the many volumes written about the life of Jesus, his family, and the apostles. This additional body of literature falls under the category of “apocrypha,” meaning “hidden” or “secret,” and offers fascinating insights into the early Christian world and how different groups understood the teachings of Jesus and the first apostles. See Rich Dunn, Frank or Marcia Wolf for additional information.
Our next meal is at Christ Lutheran Church on Wednesday, August 21st from 3:30-6:30 pm at 1300 Augustine Ave in Fredericksburg. We also need helpers to make salads the day before on August 20th at 12:30 pm. Please email Mary Molter at email@example.com if you can assist with either event.
The Tuesday Morning Bible Class is reading “Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger. Please read through the end of the book for our next class on Aug. 20th.
August is here! For many families that means school is just around the corner! Shopping for school supplies, books, and fall clothes becomes a part of everyone’s schedule. Here at St. Peter’s, on Saturday, August 10th and Sunday, August 11, we want to celebrate and bless the beginning of another school year. Students, of all ages bring your backpacks or lunch boxes to worship and we will lift up children and students of all ages, dedicating them to God’s glory as we begin a new school year.
Teachers, aides, principals, administrators, secretaries, cooks, librarians, janitors, and bus drivers…come to church to be blessed, affirmed in your vocation, and encouraged as you serve children and families in your daily work!
Tuesday Morning Bible Study will be reading “Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger for the next month or so. If you are interested in joining us, please read through chapter 29 for when we meet next on August 13th.
We are collecting dental items (toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss) for both our Micah ministry meals and our food pantry clients. We also need donations of clean plastic grocery bags. Items may be left on the bench outside the food pantry room. Questions? Contact Linda Dunn (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Every year the Quilting Guild auctions off some of their handiwork and the funds are used to buy supplies for next year’s blankets. The quilts are given to Lutheran World Relief and other charities who deliver them to those in need around the world. This year the ladies will auction off 4 items to the top bidders! The Quilts will be displayed in the sanctuary on 7/27, 7/28, 8/3, 8/4, 8/10, & 8/11. The auction ENDS on August 11th at 10:30 am. The Quilts will be dedicated during the service and winners will be announced afterwards.
